An Air Knife is a precision-engineered device designed to deliver a powerful, uniform, and laminar (sheet-like) stream of air. Widely utilized across various industries,
it serves as an efficient alternative to traditional methods like electric fans, open pipe blowing, or drilled pipe manifolds.
1. High Efficiency and Energy Saving (Air Amplification Effect)
Principle: This is the core advantage of the air knife. It utilizes the Coanda Effect and precise fluid dynamics design. When compressed air is ejected at high speed from the slit, it carries a large amount of ambient air along with it.
Effect: Typically, 1 unit of compressed air can induce 25 to 40 times the volume of ambient air. This means it can generate a huge airflow, but consumes far less compressed air than traditional open-type air nozzles or spray tubes.
2. Uniform and Powerful Airflow
Uniformity: The air knife can generate a uniform, dead-angle-free "airflow curtain" along its entire length. This avoids the airflow overlap or gap problems common in traditional multi-nozzle systems, ensuring that every point on the product surface is treated consistently.
Impact Force: Although it is laminar flow, its edge shear force is strong, effectively removing water stains, dust, or cooled surfaces.
3. Low Noise
Compared to the harsh turbulent noise generated by directly using compressed air pipes or ordinary nozzles, the laminar airflow noise level produced by air knives is significantly reduced. Many super air knives are designed to meet OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) noise safety standards, improving the working environment.
4. Maintenance-Free and Durable
No Moving Parts: The air knife has an extremely simple structure with no internal motors, bearings, or rotating parts.
Materials: Typically made of aluminum, stainless steel, or engineering plastics, it is corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant, requires almost no maintenance, and has a long service life.
5. Safety and Explosion-Proof
Because it does not require electricity (only compressed air), air knives are very safe to use in flammable and explosive environments (such as spray painting workshops and dusty environments), eliminating the risk of explosion caused by electrical sparks.
6. Flexible Installation
Compact size; the length can be customized to fit the width of the production line or cascaded. Installation and disassembly are very convenient and do not damage the main structure of the equipment.
Air knives are incredibly versatile tools used for:
Blowing and Drying: Removing water, oil, or solvents from parts, bottles, or webs after washing or coating processes.
Cleaning: Stripping away dust, chips, and debris from surfaces.
Cooling: Rapidly cooling hot materials such as plastics, metals, or glass without contact.
Static Elimination: Often combined with ionizing bars to remove static electricity from materials like plastic or paper.
Conveying and Spreading: Moving light materials or creating air curtains for separation.
